Emergency First Aid at Work + Scouts & Guides

The Emergency First Aid at Work for Scouts & Guides course is specifically designed for Scout and Guide volunteers to allow them to carry out their duties with the confidence that they could act appropriately should an incident occur.  

Designed specifically to satisfy the first aid requirements Scout & Guide Volunteers, it also includes the syllabus of an Emergency First Aid at Work course which is a recognised qualification and thus can be used in other walks of life. 

This course is delivered as a ‘blended’ course, that consists of a full day of practical, face to face training with one of our expert trainers, and a follow up online module that covers the theoretical aspects required by Scout & Guide Leaders.  We have also added a few extra topics such as managing Tick bites, and Hypo & Hyperthermia, that volunteers are likely to find useful.

The blended approach allows as much time as possible during the face to face training day to be spent on practical activity and really ensuring that you are comfortable with the techniques and decision making required to be a competent first aider at Emergency First Aid at Work level.  Much of the extra content in the online module builds on what has been learned during the practical training and will further your understanding of what to do in common situations that can occur during activities.

Course Content:

• Life Signs – Assessing a casualty’s breathing, level of consciousness, temperature, colour, and pulse
• Casualty Monitoring
• Incident management – a systematic approach to managing first aid incidents. ABCDE, 
• Airway Management – causes and treatment of unconscious collapse. Basic Recovery Position and alternative options 
• Breathing Problems - Cardiac arrest CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation), drowning/child CPR, choking (adult and child), 
• Defibrillator use (adult and child)
• Circulation Problems – Recognition and treatment of Internal bleeding, bruising, external bleeding and shock. 
• Damage – treatment of fractures and soft tissue injuries, head and dental injuries 
• Common Illnesses – asthma, diabetes, anaphylaxis, strokes, heart attack, epilepsy, sepsis & meningitis
• Other Environmental Problems – Ticks and other bites & stings, Hyperthermia, Hypothermia
• Minor Injuries - burns, cuts, bruises, splinters etc
