First Aid Training for Horse Riders

First Aid Training that is targeted, specific, and relevant to anyone involved with horses in any capacity

First Aid Training Co-operative member Medi-K are our equine sector first aid specialists and have created tailored courses alongside trusted partners in the industry.

Adding rider specific content to recognised first aid qualifications helps the first aider at a yard, stables, or veterinary practice meet their regulatory requirements and deal with the incidents that they are likely to face.

As well as dealing with incidents on premises, we also teach you what to do if you are further afield. Horse riders and those that work with horses are some of the most commonly injured people each year. Knowing what to do in an emergency is a vital part of being a rider.

What You’ll Learn

Alongside traditional emergency first aid subjects, our Equestrian focussed First Aid Training Courses can include the following content, depending on exactly what your requirements are:

  • Removal of riding hats and protective equipment
  • Lyme disease recognition and treatment
  • Crush injury treatment
  • Emergency Action Planning
  • Treatment for traumatic injuries sustain from kicking
  • Head, face and spinal injuries
  • Hypothermia recognition and treatment

I enjoyed how practical it was, even with covid restrictions. I was originally nervous that due to covid we wouldnt get as practical but so happy we did! I learn by doing so this was great. And felt safe the whole time, restrictions etc due to covid all explained and worked around

I have done many first aid courses over the years, there is usually something I forget or can't take in. This course was very thorough, on subjects that I expected, but was delivered in a way that made it easier to understand 'why' things do what they do, so therefore a lot easier to remember.

We liked the use of the rider specific items such as hats and body protectors to enhance the practicals. We liked how we kept on practising the skills which made the course less dry and the information easier to remember.

As requested I've completed the survey, but just to say once again it was excellent course.  Very well presented,  relevant content and (surprisingly in the circumstances) plenty of practicals, all delivered in a Covid-safe way.

I am sure we will be using you again. It was run very well. As you would imagine, several participants expressed concern beforehand re. Covid, it was so well-managed and nobody was expected to do anything they were not comfortable with.

Expect there will be other RDA volunteers with expired First Aid qualification next year!

Thanks again

I would like to let the team at Medi-K know the day went very well and Cory was very mindful of individual needs, which were necessary for either personal health reasons or Covid-19 home situations. He also had a good understanding of what type of incidents/situations we might find ourselves dealing with at RDA as well as the usual scenarios that are likely in everyday life.

The booking/registration was straightforward and Medi-K were flexible with change of dates and contacting me at home as our RDA group remained closed.

So, many thanks to everyone involved in giving us a safe environment and enjoyable training day.

Just wanted to send a quick note to say thank you for the training over the past two days. Although I realise how important it is to know first aid training and unfortunately had to use it a few times, I always dread the training as it always shows people dying/injured and horrific scenes.

For the first time ever, the training you provided did not send me home having nightmares and dreading the following day. Your manner and personality in the class was perfect, and a rare occasion can someone hold attention of a class to the level you did.

I liked the way you broke the day into sections and brought everything back together again at the end. I do feel I have learned some new ‘tools for the box’, I can only hope and pray I will never need to use them.

It was very relevant to all on the course. We all had different concerns and these were all addressed.

I liked that the course emphasis was on ‘first aid’ and not about becoming a medic. It was a refresher course for me and it did just that - refreshed my knowledge and wasn’t at all intimidating. I’ve attended courses in the past that most definitely were.

Testimonial – G. Main

The First Aid trainer was friendly, approachable, incredibly knowledgeable and excellent throughout the day. As a first-timer on a first aid course like this I learnt an awful lot in such a short space of time (I was amazed at how fast the 7 hours flew by!). The course covered a lot of very useful and valuable things relevant to me personally but also to our role as volunteers and coaches working with horses and disabled clients. Fantastic! Thank you!

I felt the instructors were very confident, knowledgeable and approachable. There was a lot of repetition of key skills which helped make it stick in your head and lots of opportunity for individual problem solving. I really enjoyed the course and found it interesting and helpful.
