Aberdeen Snowsports Centre asked initially for an outdoor First Aid course for some of their staff members. Using his experience from several winter seasons skiing and snowboarding, Tom was able to tailor the course specifically to the instructors’ environment – a mixture of an urban dry slope at the centre, ski resorts in the mountains, and remote back country situations.
Following a successful first course, and reacting to demand from members of the public, a partnership was set up, where ASC advertised courses on their public programme, and First Aid Training Co-operative delivered them. This has proven extremely popular and we started running several course each year, a situation which benefits everybody.
These courses have been a mixture of general outdoor first aid, and more specific courses tailored to Snowsports enthusiasts. Aberdeen Snowsports Centre have been able to not only provide a service for their customers, but also regular opportunities for their staff to stay up to date with the first aid qualification requirement for their BASI instructor licences.
