Forestry First Aid Training
In order to work on, Forestry and Land Scotland, Scottish Forestry, or Forest Service Northern Ireland sites, you must have an approved ‘+F’ first aid qualification.
The First Aid Training Co-operative have provided +F training to Forestry and Land Scotland personnel for many years. Our ISO9001 registration (along with ISO14001 & 45001), robust quality assurance process, experience and expertise in the outdoor sector, and ability to deliver courses anywhere in the country makes us the first choice supplier for this and all remote first aid training.

An excellent First Aid At Work/Equestrian course today. A really good mix of practical role plays and discussion/slide based content. Our trainers, Rachel and Molly, were brilliant. Extremely relevant and up to date training. Very good visual presentations and easily understandable instruction. Mixture of PowerPoint and practical hands on. Group activity's, individual and pairs. Mixture of equipment including dummies, defibrillator machines and epipens. Professional training but with good humour that helps maximise engagement.
A good, practical approach to first aid. Building up on procedures and repeating to embed. Lots of different scenarios acted out.

I had a fun informative weekend on the Outdoor First Aid course. I feel really equipped to run outdoor therapy sessions now. Putting us into suprise scenarios outside ment we really had to assess the situation more carefully than being presented with a known situation in a classroom. I recommend the course to everyone!

What You’ll Learn
Alongside traditional emergency first aid subjects, all our Forestry First Aid Training Courses include the following areas in order to meet the guidance of the HSE and Forestry and Land Scotland.
- +F: Hypothermia recognition and treatment
- +F: Lyme disease recognition and treatment
- +F: Treatment of Adder Bites
- +F: Severe bleed management
- +F: Crush injury treatment
- +F: Emergency Action Planning
- Vital signs
- Incident management – a systematic approach to managing first aid incidents – ABC
- Airway Management – causes and treatment of unconscious collapse
- Recovery Positions and other safe airway positions
- Breathing Problems – cardiac arrest CPR in adults and children,
- Heart attack, Angina and other medical emergencies
- AED / Defibrillator use
- Choking in adults and children
- Circulation Problems – Internal bleeding, external bleeding and treatment for Shock
- Bandaging issues
- Minor injury (cuts, splinters, minor burns)
- Accident reporting
Which +F Course Should I Do?
These courses are suitable for Forestry Workers, Arbiculturists, Tree Surgeons, Greenkeepers, Rangers, Chainsaw operators, Hauliers and more.
The right course for you depends upon your responsibilities, but as a general rule, +F training is required for anyone working in Core Operations. Please contact us if you are unsure on your requirements. Choose either our Emergency First Aid at Work +F course (EFAW+F), or our First Aid at Work +F course (FAW+F).
First Aid at Work +F
If you work alone, are a squad leader or frequently work in remote locations, you’ll need this course which covers remote first aid training.
Course length: 2 days as a refresher, 3 days if new.
Emergency First Aid at Work +F
If you are a member of a squad, you are a machine operator or only work occasionally in remote locations, you’ll need this course.
Course length: 7 hours, completed in 1 day.
Outdoor First Aid
A further option for you is to complete one of our Outdoor First Aid 2 Day courses. These include most of the +F requirements as standard, and we are happy to add the Severe Bleeding element for you on request, and provide a letter of confirmation that you have completed all +F requirements to go with your certificate.
Course length: 16 Hours, completed over 2 Days
