Our 2 Day, 16 Hour Outdoor First Aid course for Forest School Leaders and Outdoor Woodland Learning Practitioners is specifically designed for the requirements of the sector.

Developed by our Forest Schools expert, this course removes the ‘remote’ aspects of our standard Outdoor First Aid 2 Days course, and instead emphasises care of young people in an outdoor environment.

First Aid Requirements for Forest School Leaders

Forest School Level 3 Leaders are required to have a 2 day / 16 Hour first aid certificate that specifically deals with child-specific issues in the outdoor or woodland environment.

Our course satisfies these requirements and includes young child-specific issues such as:

  • Child-specific life signs
  • Child CPR
  • Child Choking
  • Child illness

As standard, this course does not include Paediatric first aid content. It concentrates on nursery age children and older, as well as adult helpers. If you require content specifically dealing with babies or infants in an outdoor environment, please contact us to discuss your requirements.

It includes many practical outdoor incident scenarios, which can be tailored to the environment in which your outdoor learning takes place. That might be the forest, beach, or simply in the playground.

Why Choose the First Aid Training Co-operative?

Our Forest Schools and Outdoor Woodland Learning First Aid course has been developed in partnership with the Forest Schools Training Co-operative, experts in the field of outdoor learning for young people.

So you know the course will be exactly what you need if you work in this sector.

Our ISO9001 registration, robust quality assurance process, experience and expertise in the outdoor sector, and ability to deliver courses anywhere in the country makes us the first choice supplier.

Ali was a great, friendly, enthusiastic and honest assessor, he made the course both informative and entertaining.  The first aid experiences of the 12 students ranged from very to none and yet this was never an issue and as someone with no experience I didn't at any point feel out of my depth.

As requested I've completed the survey, but just to say once again it was excellent course.  Very well presented,  relevant content and (surprisingly in the circumstances) plenty of practicals, all delivered in a Covid-safe way.

I have done many first aid courses over the years, there is usually something I forget or can't take in. This course was very thorough, on subjects that I expected, but was delivered in a way that made it easier to understand 'why' things do what they do, so therefore a lot easier to remember.

I would like to say a massive thank you to Mike Smith who delivered the first of 2 OFA courses for Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team.  The feedback has been very positive.  I was able to observe some of the course and I would say that it was the best first aid course delivery I have ever seen.

Mike has a methodical approach, is interactive and allows for time for the candidates to practice. His friendly and supportive approach also allows people to ask questions and get involved.

Word has got round the team and the next lot of candidates are keenly looking forward to the next course.

Couldn’t praise Ali enough. Delivered at the right level for an experienced group, and challenged us all on the second day with real life simulations. Our prior training was very much ‘casualty lying on the back, standard procedure’.

I felt the instructors were very confident, knowledgeable and approachable. There was a lot of repetition of key skills which helped make it stick in your head and lots of opportunity for individual problem solving. I really enjoyed the course and found it interesting and helpful.

I enjoyed the enthusiasm of the trainers and everything was extremely well explained. It gave me confidence that I would be able to react to a range of scenarios and I enjoyed that they showed you how to utilise everyday items rather than specialist equipment.

Just wanted to send a quick note to say thank you for the training over the past two days. Although I realise how important it is to know first aid training and unfortunately had to use it a few times, I always dread the training as it always shows people dying/injured and horrific scenes.

For the first time ever, the training you provided did not send me home having nightmares and dreading the following day. Your manner and personality in the class was perfect, and a rare occasion can someone hold attention of a class to the level you did.

I liked the way you broke the day into sections and brought everything back together again at the end. I do feel I have learned some new ‘tools for the box’, I can only hope and pray I will never need to use them.

The teaching was very good and did not fall into the usual trap of just trying to show off their own knowledge. Both instructors where not only very knowledgeable, but also very personable and easy to learn from!
