Join the first aid training co-operative

I was asked by Heather at MyFirstAidCourses.co.uk to write a blog post introducing ourselves and the First Aid Training Co-operative on their site, so I thought it would be a good opportunity to do that, and give regular readers an update on where we are at in the development of the company.
Also a great chance to let you know of an opportunity for you to join us on our journey!

Tom DurhamFirst Aid Training Co-operative was formed in April (2015), and formally started trading on July 1st this year.  We were formed by joining together Collective Training Ltd, run by Tom Durham (me), and Outdoor First Aid Ltd run by Cory Jones.
These companies were two of Scotland’s biggest providers of outdoor first aid courses, and well established businesses in their own right.  Our reputations for high quality training, especially in outdoor first aid was strong, and we were well known.
However to take the next step in business development was proving difficult for both of us, so we decided to join forces.
We didn’t want to take a traditional path though and felt that there was a chance to improve things for first aid trainers, traditionally solo operators or sole traders, who struggle to develop as the burden of administration is often too difficult to overcome.
Our plan was simple; combine resources and assets, to enable us to create a centrally administered business, that keeps the highest quality of practical training as its priority.  Our trainers are still the public face of the company and is the initial point of contact for most group bookings, before allowing the office to do all of the administration.
It works for the trainers as they are able to concentrate on training quality, rather than admin.  And it works for both us as a company, and you as a client, because we can utilise the skills, experience and geographical spread of our trainers to offer a more diverse range of courses, in more locations across the country than previously.
In fact, we now have more publicly accessible outdoor first aid courses scheduled for the next 12 months, than any other provider in Scotland!
As well as Outdoor First Aid, we also provide training in all other types of first aid course, and currently have bookings for Sports First Aid (we are SYFA approved), Paediatric First Aid, First Aid at Work including the + F content for forestry contractors, and short courses such as AED training.
In order to meet demand, we are growing our list of Co-operative Trainers, with 6 new trainees having started this autumn, due to be fully signed off in 6 months following our Trainer Development Programme.
We are also actively looking of more candidates to become trainees in our next intake in the spring.  Specifically, we are looking for interested people from the central belt of Scotland including Glasgow and Edinburgh, the Scottish Borders, and Aberdeen & the NE.
We are also looking to expand our list of Associate Members through inviting existing first aid businesses to join us.  We know how hard it is to develop, and we know how much better off we are now, not just in  financial terms, but in the important things: work life balance, job satisfaction, and more time doing what we enjoy.
If you would like to know more about us or about becoming an associate member or trainer, please visit the join us page of our site, or drop one of us a line on join@firstaidtrainingcooperative.co.uk.
Meanwhile, we’ll continue to grow, and provide more accessible courses for our extremely valued clients.  If you would like to see a specific type of course made available, or have suggestions about what might help your situation when you’re booking a course, please let us know by contacting me directly on tom@firstaidtrainingcooperative.co.uk.
I look forward to hearing from you.
