Dentists Basic Life Support and CPR First Aid training

The Quality standards for cardiopulmonary resuscitation practice and training from the UK Resuscitation Council state that Dentist practices annual requirement for Basic Life Support and CPR training is-

‘Primary dental care providers, general dental practitioners and all other dental healthcare professionals should undergo training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) including basic airway management and the use of an AED’.

CPR Training

Additional points to note are that if your practice deals with children then this should include learning child CPR on a child CPR manikin. This training should be undertaken annually. Again, these are the rules set out by the UK Resuscitation Council.

General Dental Council ‘Scope of Practice’ 2013 states that

‘A patient could collapse on any premises at any time, whether they have received treatment or not. It is therefore essential that ALL registrants are trained in dealing with medical emergencies, including resuscitation, and possess up to date evidence of capability’.

First Aid Training Co-operative has produced a series of videos to use after our courses which demonstrate ‘How to use and AED’ or ‘How to do child CPR’.

First Aid Training Co-operative has designed a ‘Basic Life Support’ first aid course specifically designed for Dental Practices. This popular course takes approximately 2/3 hours. All participants received a Basic Life Support certificate that counts as CPD for the staff members and the practice. Click here for more course information.

All our first aid courses fully meet the UK and European Resuscitation Council Guidelines 2015 and the HSE requirements for first aid training.
