Wilderness First Aid Training Kenya
For the past fifteen-year Cory Jones, Director at First aid Training Co-operative has been working in Kenya to deliver a range of inspirational first aid courses. Over the first decade he developed a reputation for excellence delivering wilderness and paediatric first aid courses for a wide variety of safari lodges, Kenya Wildlife Service, mountain guides and rangers on Mount Kenya, Sheldrake Wildlife Trust. Cory has also worked with Alternative Adventures based in Tanzania to train their team of Kilimanjaro guides and leaders.
He has taught thousands of people life saving techniques in Kenya. Many of the candidates on courses say that the training was most useful also to take back to their communities and to show other people lifesaving skills.
Cory received an email from a course candidate, a few months after they attended a course. They said that they were involved in an incident that required the use of the skills they had just been taught. The person stopped and helped at the site of a road traffic accident and judging by what happened they probably saved lives at the scene.
“Every year we run courses in Kenya and I am overwhelmed by the friendliness of the people who come on our first aid courses. People are so positive about the practical training we run”, said Cory Jones, Director First Aid Training Co-operative.

Since 2016 Cory has been working with James Savage of Savage Wilderness, to develop a team of Kenyan Wilderness First Aid trainers. Now the team can not only train many more people in life saving first aid skills, but the trainer team can teach in both English and Swahili ensuring that the local students fully understand the course content. Cory returns annually to support the ongoing training and development of the trainer team and update them on the latest first aid techniques. This therefore covers the trainer requirements for continuing professional development (CPD). It also means Cory can observe, assess and review the trainer’s running courses. This quality assurance process is vital to run high quality, verifiable first aid training. And issue certificates with an equivalence of those produced in the United Kingdom. Cory will be heading back to Kenya in January 2024 to work with some old clients and to help support the current first aid trainer team and start to grow the team by bringing on board some new faces.
