We’re pleased to announce that Ian Conway will be speaking at our First Aid Conference on 8th March, 2024 in Carlisle.
Ian comes from an extensive pre-hospital specialist paramedic background with over 25 years of NHS experience. Until recently he was Head of Specialist Training and Development for the Scottish Ambulance Service and managed a team of clinical educators throughout Scotland.
As part of Ian’s role, he has worked as both a national Tactical and Strategic Advisor, providing specialist response advice in dealing with complex and major incidents throughout Scotland. He holds a variety of specialist incident command qualifications including CBRN and Multi-Agency Gold Incident Command.
Ian will be talking about the importance of good first aid at the scene and how our awareness of the new ‘Ten Second Triage’ protocol is being implemented by Emergency Services. Triage is the process of efficiently assessing patients to identify those who are most likely to benefit from receiving immediate but limited clinical resources in a mass casualty incident. Since the 1980s, the process of triage during mass casualty incidents has been codified into many formal triage tools. Although triage tools are widely employed, however, there is a surprising lack of knowledge about how these tools perform.
Ian will explain and demonstrate the new protocol and how first aiders at a scene can be best prepared to assist.
