Time to Retire from First Aid Training? – You’ve taught CPR more times than you can count. You’ve fielded last-minute bookings, handled certificate admin late at night, and kept your training gear in working order through years of use. Maybe you’ve built up a loyal client base and delivered courses in village halls, community centres, offices, schools, mountain slopes, and more places than you can remember.
First aid training is a brilliant profession, but it’s demanding. It’s physical, repetitive, and involves an unusual mix of people management, equipment logistics, legislation, and pedagogy.
And now… you’re tired.
This blog is for those who love what they built, but know that it’s time for something new.
The Realities of First Aid Fatigue
And let’s be honest: the industry has changed. Accreditation expectations keep shifting. Equipment is more expensive. Clients are booking later, want more flexibility, more mental health awareness, and more tailored experiences. Trainers are expected to be part medic, part performer, and part tech-savvy business owner.
For solo trainers and small providers, it’s a lot.
At some point, what once gave you purpose becomes a drain on your time and energy. You don’t want to let your clients down—but you also don’t want to be stuck delivering the recovery position for the hundredth time when your heart’s no longer in it.
That’s where we come in.
What If There Was an Exit Plan?
Imagine being able to hand over your business—your clients, your gear, and your reputation—to a trusted organisation that shares your values. No stress. No messy closures. Just a smooth handover to people who’ll continue delivering the kind of high-quality, scenario-based training you’ve worked so hard to offer.
At the First Aid Training Co-operative, we specialise in physical and mental health first aid training for workplaces, professionals from all sorts of backgrounds, and public services. We’re not a franchise or a corporate chain — we’re a business co-operative, owned and run by our members. You can find out a lot more about us and the way we operate on this page and our ethos and history on this page.
And we’re looking to help people like you, good trainers with great businesses, but who are needing a change.
How Does It Work?
We offer two main ways to pass on your business:
1. A One-Off Payment for Your Client Data Base
If you’re looking for a clean break, we’ll assess the value of your client list and other relevant assets (like manikins, AED trainers, etc.) and offer you a cash sum. We’re not buying your company—just the assets. You keep the business entity to wind down or repurpose.
We can move quickly—once due diligence is done, payment can be made in weeks. And if it helps with tax planning, we can split the payment over two financial years.
2. Ongoing Commission from Referrals
Prefer something longer-term? We can offer you a five-year commission model, where you earn 8% of the income we receive from your former clients. We tag those clients in our CRM system, and every quarter, you get a payment based on their bookings.
You walk away from the admin—but keep a small income stream ticking over for years.
The Handover: Simple, Honest, and Confidential
We know that for many trainers, their client base is personal. You’ve built it through word of mouth, reputation, and trust. That’s why we make the handover process smooth and collaborative.
We start with a chat and a simple questionnaire about your courses, pricing, client types, and location. We don’t ask for names at first—just numbers and patterns.
Once we agree a value and sign a contract, we’ll support you with client communication. We can draft emails, attend joint handover meetings, and ensure your clients feel like they’re gaining something—not losing you.
If you have trainers working with you, we’ll possibly also offer them the opportunity to work with us, adapting to our training model and standards. Continuity is key—for everyone involved.
What Makes FATC Different?
We’ve been in business since 2015 and now train around 6,000 people per year across the UK. We’ve built a reputation for no-nonsense, scenario-based training that’s grounded in real-world experience. We’re also growing steadily—because we keep things simple, honest, and useful.
We’ve already helped other trainers exit gracefully, including those from specialist niches like equestrian first aid. If you’ve got a strong brand, and aren’t planning to continue using it going forward, we’ll consider incorporating it under our banner—just as we did with Medi-K.
Is It the Right Time?
There’s no perfect moment to step away from a business you built—but if you’re reading this, it might be time. Maybe you’ve got other passions to pursue. Maybe you want to spend more time with family. Or maybe you just want to stop working weekends.
Whatever the reason, we’re here to help make the transition as easy as possible and ensure that it is done with respect.
